Note: You do not need any knowledge of chess or shogi whatsoever in order to enjoy this game. The puzzles are 2D spatial puzzles that use chess and shogi pieces as a theme, and are more akin to something like solitaire than real-life chess or shogi. In-game help is always available and shogi pieces are color-coded so that anyone can memorize them easily.

Otonashi Mayu is a bullied, weird girl. She is excellent at shogi, but extremely quiet, a little scary, and dark rumors swirl about her like thick smoke. Her worst bully, Fifield, torments her regularly, and the game begins with the start of her worst act yet.

Magic exists in this society, and Fifield is a witch. Using her power, she decides to invade Mayu's mind, with the goal of digging up all of her dark secrets, and uncovering the truth of what exactly Mayu is and why. But the mind invasion spell is fragile, and there are some things that are better left uncovered. Let things slip too far, and the hunted just might be able to become the hunter...

Part puzzle game, part walking simulator, and part visual novel, Jishogi is a story about revenge, forgiveness, talent, ethics, and sexuality. It features heavy moral ambiguity, and as much potential for evil as there is good.

Note: Jishogi has about 3-10 hours worth of content, depending on how much you want to see and how fast you are with puzzles.

CONTENT WARNING: Features violence, bullying, brainwashing.

Might be a stupid question, Not sure, but how do I get my hands on the sound track?

So, I restarted the game in new game plus and I cant seem to use the skipper on the first puzzle, Do you have to beat the puzzle while you have the skipper in the inventory for you to be able to skip that puzzle?

(Original Play + New Game+ Play = Two times total)

Maybe my skipper item isn't functioning properly, or the wording of the item needs to be revised from "on a past playthrough." to "on a past playthrough while having the skipper in the inventory."?

In the mean time I guess I could press THAT hot key for the ones I've already completed, I guess it shouldn't matter as those are the only ones I should be skipping, anyways

Hey there! That's a bug that I fixed on steam, I forgot to upload the latest version here until now.  If you get the new version, the bug shouldn't happen anymore, although unfortunately it can't fix playthroughs where the bug has already happened. I apologize for any inconvenience.

Also, you can listen to the OST here or in-game.

Thank you and sorry again!

There's a chance I misinterpreted you, but I had the issue on the steam version, I haven't played the itch.io version. If you really were telling me the issue was already fixed on steam and this Itch.io version was out dated.

Can you upload the music files here/ on steam as DLC/ or both, i'll pay. lol

I have a 160 hour soundtrack of my favorite game musics in the highest quality, and I fear that downloading the youtube audio might cause some loss?

Hello! I've recently beaten the steam version and found a bug. Someone else reported it as well on the steam forums. When you start again in new game plus, the game softlocks in the first memory room. Every memory says you've already seen it and not to waste time. To avoid this you have to disable steam cloud and delete some old save slots. The guy on steam forums said slot 1 is enough.

I loved the game! The writing is incredible and the array of endings really completes it. Thank you very much for your hard work.

EDIT: And you've fixed it in record time. Thank you!
I've 100% the game now and I want to say, its an absolute gem. You deserve so much more recognition for this, and I hope your future endeavors find the success you clearly deserve. If nothing else, it was an incredibly wonderful surprise for me. Your writing is perfectly level and down to earth despite the wild circumstances. Everything feels so genuine and well thought out. Every ending having tidbits of information the others are lacking, different dialogue options and reactions depending on circumstance, etc, do a fantastic job fleshing out the story. I just wanted to say again how great of an experience this was, and i'll definitely be very interested in anything else you work on in the future. I'll also be checking out Black Lilies soon.

I don't think I would have found the game on my own without a youtube video by Manlybadasshero, who makes medium length reviews of horror/disturbing indie games, so ill also shoutout to him.

Hi, I've been playing the Steam version and accidentally discovered the hotkey to skip puzzles. I've skipped one puzzle as a result. Will I still be eligible for the Board Wizard (complete every puzzle in the game) achievement? Also, is it necessary to complete all puzzles in the same playthrough to get that achievement, or can I do them in separate playthroughs?

(+1)

Yes, you should be able to get that achievement so long as you complete all the puzzles, the order/playthrough doesn't matter and it should still work on skips.

Ah, that's good to know! Thank you for your reply! Really enjoying the game, btw. You really know how to tell a good story! Gotten most of the endings now. Currently working on solving all the puzzles (on my own) before I go for the remaining endings.
